For most residential retractable and fixed awnings, solution-dyed acrylic is the best all-round fabric because it breathes, resists fading and lasts about 8 to 15 years. Vinyl-laminated or vinyl-coated polyester is the choice when you need a waterproof cover or commercial graphics, and coated polyester is the budget option with a shorter life of about 5 to 10 years.
